Widnes Vikings RLFC sign former Hull KR’s fullback Shaun Briscoe on two-year deal: Rugby
Cheshire based English rugby league club, Widnes Vikings RLFC, has announced the signing of the former Hull Kingston Rovers (Hull KR) fullback Shaun Briscoe. Officials have confirmed the two-year deal with the former English international in a statement
released on Friday, July 15.
Briscoe has expressed his delight on signing the contract with the Stobart Stadium Halton based Widnes. He said, “Being back in Super League means that it's a completely fresh start for the Vikings and I'm excited by the thought of playing my part in their
progress over the next couple of years.”
The 28-year-old Briscoe started his rugby league career with the Wigan Warriors in 2002. He left the Warriors at the end of the 2002 season after making 28 appearances in the season and scoring 44 points, all coming from the tries.
At the start of the 2003 season, Manchester born Briscoe joined Hull KR on a new long-term, four-year, contract. In his first stint with Hull KR, he made 103 appearances for the club and scored 232 points. He scored all of his points with tries, 58.
After his exceptional performance in the domestic competitions In 2004, Briscoe got a call to represent the national side. He made his international debut for England in 2004.  His international career comprises of only five appearances in which he has scored
four tries.
In the start of the 2008 season, Briscoe signed a new contract with Hull KR. In his second stint with the club, he played approximately 91 games for Hull KR and scored over 116 points.
Widnes Vikings head coach, Dennis Betts, has expressed his delight on acquiring the services of the talented and experienced player.  He said, "Shaun will bring a wealth of experience and all-round quality to the Vikings, not only as a player but also as
a person.”
Betts further added that Briscoe will not only play as a member of the team; he will be given the additional responsibility of the development of the young players. Betts praised Brescoe’s personal and professional skills and expressed his hope that the
full back will impart his skills to the club and players.
