Widnes Vikings recruit four more players for Super League campaign - Rugby

The Widnes Vikings announced on August 7th that they have inducted four new players including; Ben Davies, Chris Dean, Lloyd White and Frank Winterstein to their franchise after they gained their unexpected Super League license.
Ex-Wigan Warrior, Davies, who appeared for the club 17 times in 2010, has sealed a two-year deal with the Vikings, which will take-off at the start of the next season. Denis Betts, the coach of the Vikings, is very eager to have this young player on board.
While speaking about the latest developments within the club, their coach shared that Davies is special because he has also played Super League prior to this experience with Vikings. He added, “Not only has Ben got Super League experience but he’s also got
experience of being at the Stobart Stadium before, having served the club so well in his previous spell.”
Betts shared the recruitment strategy adopted by his club, as they move towards the Super League season and said that basically they are picking fresh blood who show quality, which will be nurtured further to chisel them into fine players.
He was also of the opinion that this approach is taken on because they are, “looking towards building something really strong at the Vikings and it’s important that we get the foundations right first, so securing young British players such as Ben Davies
will definitely stand us in good stead for both our immediate and long-term future.”
Ex-Crusader, Lloyd has signed a three-year deal at the Stobart Stadium. It was further stated by the coach that the veteran Lloyd will prove to be amazing as he has the honour of playing for both the domestic and International level. Therefore, it is believed
that there is a huge pool of wealth which can be expected of him he will grant new dimension to the outfit in realising their dream.
Another latest capture from Crusaders is Winterstein who has signed also a two-year contract. While speaking about him Betts added that Winterstein is a big man with brilliant ball-handling skills which are the key skills of a second-rower.
Dean has also joined in with the Vikings into a two-year deal. As shared by the coach, his inclusion will have a positive impact on the younger lot which is an added advantage.
However, Betts was of opinion that it is not just Vikings that is going to benefit from the wealth of their players’ energy and skills. He believes that it is a give and take process which will nurture the players to reach their next level. This was indicated
by Betts in specific relation to Lloyd, who according to him can be chiseled further to reach his ultimate best as a player.
