She forgot to sign her scorecard at the right time.

1. Why isn't she paying someone to look out for her?

2. Why did it matter when the card was signed?

  1. 1)    I have heard the parents want to run everything which is actually not a good thing in most cases.

    2)    There are rules and protocol and she broke them.  Just like anything things have to be done in a timely and proper manner and she broke the rule, same as not counting a stroke in an unplayable lie.  There are a ton of rules in golf and as a pro making $$$MILLIONS, she SHOULD know the rules.

    3)  Womens golf is becoming so big, her missing will not affect the tournament in any way, shape or form.  Paula Creamer, Natalie, Lorena, etc  Michelle who???

  2. The basic underlying theme in the Rules of Golf is that the player is responsible for her own actions. In many cases, the players act as their own referees, and call infractions that may occur.

Signing a scorecard is not just a formality. Since there is a large amount of money involved, the scorecard is really a legal document.

There are no referees or umpires calling every shot. By signing a scorecard she is making a statement that says "These are my scores for each hole. I did not violate any rules in achieving these scores, or I included the appropriate penalty if I did violate a rule."

By failing to sign the card, she is failing to make that statement.  Thus, her card cannot be accepted as valid.

I'm sorry, but there is no excuse for a professional golfer forgetting to sign a scorecard.

  3. 1.  Wie has been DQed on multiple occasions - including the first tournament of her pro career.  When asked afterwards if she would re-read the rulebook she brazenly answered "no".   With all her mishaps she should make it her caddy's job to make sure she doesn't s***w up, but the plain truth is that she doesn't learn from her mistakes and is too arrogant to admit she needs help.

    2.  Each golfer is responsible for keeping track of their own score and signing the score card basically attests to the fact that you have checked it over and agree that it is correct.  Without a signiture, a player could turn in a lower score than they actually shot and then if they got caught say, "Oh, that wasn't me - I didn't do that".

So, there has to be some time - today, next week - when a player is required to sign for their score.  That time as been decided to be "before one leaves the scoring area".  Pretty simple - no one else has a problem with it.  Rules are rules.

  4. Golf is lame. Why doesn't it evolve with their rules. You can play your best with everyone watching but because you didn't sign a score card it doesn't count? That's ridiculous. They SHOULD just drop that lame rule. It's so stupid.

  5. If I was Wie, I would fire my caddie.  True that I am responsible for my own actions, and I did take the bitter pill to be DQ'ed but as a caddie that I pay, I expect him/her to pay attention to my well being as well, which he didn't.

  6. She's a hack player and has no business being as popular as she is. first and foremost, this is a sport with rules.  Not a sport with rules that don't apply to dumb chicks.

She's tall, asian, and beautiful.  In her case, her ability to play golf is definitely a secondary consideration.

  7. Her caddy was heard to grumble: "That stupid sack of *&^$#@!"

  8. You're supposed to sign your card right after it's over, and make sure that your score that you wrote on your card agrees with the other person who kept your score. That's the rule. How she could forget, I have no idea.

  9. If she needs a baby sitter  then she shouldn't be playing until she grows up. That's why kids shouldn't be allowed to compete in grown up games.

  10. the rules are simple sign the card  before you leave the tent

shes a student at a respected university she should know the rules or get a caddy to do her thinking for her

  11. My question is why would they let he play the entire third round and be in contention unless the intent was to humiliate her?  Shouldn't the officials be checking cards after each round?
