In the wieliczka salt mines, what is it like? I'm going to poland this summer and i'm going to stay in krakow most of the time. My dad is clastrophobic, is it scary going down there? Is it worth it? Is it dangerous? Is it extremely touristy? Long lines?

  1. Wieliczka is definitely worth visiting. I have been there a few times already and I never get bored. It's extremely beautiful. You can even go to mass down there (if you're catholic of course!). It's not scary. Maybe the lift coming back up is a little weird. The last time I went there in the summer I had to wait 3 hours in a queue. However if you go really early, say about 7am, you shouldn't have to wait too long. Good luck and Happy Sightseeing!

P.S. Don't forget to visit Auschwitz while you're there. You won't regret it!

  2. It's worth it. They are beautiful, especially the Hall of Kinga (I think that's what it was called).

    It's not dangerous.

It's not very touristy, although there are obviously tourists there. When I went there (late June), the lines weren't very long.

Your dad may have a few problems. Getting down to the mines means walking down a long, winding, wooden staircase with your tour group. For some reason, you come up by lift, but you have to go down on foot. Once he is down there, it should be OK but getting down might be stressful. May be worth asking the staff if there is anything they can do to help him.

Is it your first time in Krakow? If so, you are in for a real treat. It's a brilliant, beautiful place.
