Wietse Bosmans 2012 UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup round 3, Under 23 Men event and leads the overall standings
Wietse Bosmans continues his winning ways and secured a significant victory at the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup round 3, Under 23 Men event with a photo-finish.
“During the first few laps we weren’t going too hard so I knew some guys would return from behind, when I saw Michiel I attacked to make it harder for him,” he cited after crossing the finish-line.
He further added, “In the last lap he still managed to get ahead of me and even gap me twice but eventually I was with him at the finish line”.
“I was content; it was in my favour that he probably lost a lot of energy in the first half of the race”.
The Belgian took a total time of 52 minutes and 52 seconds to occupy the top podium position after a close encounter with Michiel van der Heijden of Netherlands.
The Dutch looked good throughout the event but fall 1 second short of Bosmans as he settles for the second position at Koksijde.
The group of five cyclists consisting Bosmans, Michiel van der Heijden, Wout Van Aert, Gianni Vermeersch and Michael Vanthourenhout dominated the race and distant the rest.
Wout Van Aert finished 14 seconds behind the race leader and occupied the third podium spot, with Gianni Vermeersch and Michael Vanthourenhout achieving the fourth and the fifth positions respectively.
Dutch rider, Corne Van Kessel finished 1 minute and 2 seconds behind the race leader and maintained his third overall position.
Tomas Paprstka, Jens Adams, Laurens Sweeck and Jens Vandekinderen finished the race at the seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth positions respectively.
Wietse Bosmans currently leads the World Cup standings after three rounds with a total number of 165 points to his credit with Wout Van Aert (119 points), Corne Van Kessel (115 points), Michael Vanthourenhout (115 points) and Mike Teunissen (108 points)
holding the next four positions in the respective order.
On the other hand, Sven Nys wins the Elite Men category of the race with Niels Albert and Francis Mourey holding the second and the third positions.
While Katie Compton, Nikki Harris and Sanne Cant were the top three women at the Elite Women’s category of the race.
