Wife and I are interested in buying house in Chile, what are the best neighborhoods in Santiago Metro?

The eastern you go, the better. The really good neighbourhoods (away from traffic, smog which is Santiago's worst enemy and chaos) start in Vitacura, Las Condes, Lo Barnechea, Manquehue and the nearest you go to the Cordillera, the more expensive too. I lived and worked in Santiago for 4 years; 2 of them I lived in Vitacura and 2 in Lo Barnechea. I liked Providencia a lot but it has become quite commercial. Personally I would stick to either Las Condes or Lo Barnechea. But it all depends on your taste, your purpose of living in Santiago and the amount of money you want to pay for a house.

North-east of Santiago, Lo Barnechea, Las Condes Vitacura and Manquehue, the best neighbourhoods of the city, downtown is there too, not in the center of the city, and before you can reach the center, Providencia is the comercial district. Almost all houses have a big pool, a special conected security and many close golf camps.

About the prices, round U$ 500,000, 9 new apartments were released at San Damian (near Las Condes) for U$ 1,700,000. But closer to Providencia you can find places for U$ 300,000.
