Wife of Pakistan’s Runaway Wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider seeks to join him; Haider to reveal identity of match-fixers soon
Just a day after Zulqarnain’s family received threatening calls, Iqra Haider, the wife of the wicketkeeper has said that she wants to join her husband in London.
She said, “Soon after my husband said on his Facebook page yesterday he would expose these people, I started getting calls from unknown numbers where they told me they knew where my children studied or went and they would not remain
safe.”
The wife previously said that she was in no mood to leave her native country and added that she had asked her husband to come back from London, but Haider had rebuffed his wife’s requests sighting the threats to his life.
However, now with the latest threatening calls to the family, they are more scared than ever before. This has led Mrs. Haider into rethinking her previous decision and now she wants to reunite with her husband as soon as possible.
Speaking to the media, she said, “I don’t feel safe any longer in Pakistan after these threat calls. I am afraid to even send my children out now, I want to be with my husband.”
The government of Pakistan needs to provide Haider’s family with the best possible security and then convince the wicketkeeper to come back. As long as this situation stays unresolved, the ordeal of the family will linger on.
The recent threatening calls have come after Zulqarnain Haider updated his Facebook page claiming to blow the whistle on the people involved in match-fixing in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 cricket.
As of today, the Pakistani police have still not been able to trace the calls of the people threatening the family. The lack of seriousness from the police in locating the culprits is quite startling.
Haider is also playing a weird role in this soap opera: at one point he said that he just wanted to live in England now, away from cricket and all the controversies surrounding the game, then he claimed that he didn’t know the
identity of the people involved in match-fixing. But now, out of the blue he has popped up a statement on a social networking site trying to intimidate certain people.
Haider should quit playing Sherlock http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Holmes-c63294 and should just spill out any information that he has regarding match-fixing to the law enforcing agencies.
He should have come out clean when the Anti-Corruption Unit of the International Cricket Council investigated him when he landed in London.
The wicketkeeper so far has refused to communicate with the Pakistan Cricket Board; but if he doesn’t want to have any communication with the PCB, he should at least talk to the ICC.
The sooner Haider discloses the names of the match-fixers the better. Once the names are disclosed, the culprits will be more concerned for their own security than to worry about harming Haider’s family.
The coming week is going to be very interesting if Haider keeps his word and gives out the names of the crooks.
