Wifi router?

Question

I'm getting a macbook and I know you can get wifi routers that plug into the wall or pcs but can you get one that would maybe run on batteries or something that I could use everywhere I went and in the car so I would have wifi on my macbook in the car?

I'm not aware of a battery-powered router, but you could always use an inverter in the car. It plugs into the cigarette lighter and converts 12 VDC to 115VAC.

Linksys makes a tiny wifi router for travelers, but it is still AC-powered. Its the WRT54GC and it's about 4 x 4 x 1 inches.

One thought though. All the routers I've seen use a little power transformer brick that outputs DC. The Linksys mentioned above takes 3.3 VDC. But if you can find one that runs on 12 VDC, you could conceivably run it off the car battery with the proper connector.

you would have to have an air card to produce the internet signal, the router only broadcasts the internet its being provided, much like at home the router is hooked up to the modem, the modem in your car would have to be the air card and in that sense you wouldn't need the router.

The way the router works is that it runs off an ethernet (cable) connection from your internet providor. Even if you ran it off betteries and put it in your car, where is the internet coming from? The cable needs to be attached to your router. If you want internet where ever you go I would suggest an air card.

no you cannot get a wifi router that u can take in your car, routers are designed to serve a certain area and have extended range. if you want internet everywhere you go look up atts, sprint, ect wireless notebook plans,
