  1. Usually indicates that you are too far away from the wifi source. Wifi-N is a step up. You may need to relocate your router or install a second router. It is possibly a driver problem, try going to microsoft updates and select custum and look at the hardware updates.

  2. Its the D-Link that's affecting the Wi-Fi on your laptop. If your D-Link happens to be a G router, then don't expect too much out of it because the radius of that router doesn't cover the whole house even if it happens to be a small house. Try to connect next to the router, but when it still doesn't work, I would recommend you to switch into a N router which have a way larger radius and it is the most advance technology in the market right now and you can happen to get in any electronic stores.

Feel free to ask any further questions.

  3. What this means is you did not pull an IP address from the router. That can be many things.

Try just resetting the router. Unplug it, wait 30 seconds and reconnect power. (I have to do this to my linksys about once a month or so, it just hangs no good reason.)

Still limited or no connectivity?  Check the security settings, Try by turning off security in the router and see if you connect. If you do, reset the security and enter the correct password on your computer. Vista stores these so you only have to do that once.. if you stored one for the same SSID like linksys and you try to connect at home using the same SSID,, it will fail!  Change your routers SSID to one you know is yours, then connect!

My guess is one of these will correct your issue.
