Wigan Athletic's manager Roberto Martinez confident of avoiding Premier League relegation: EPL News
Wigan Athletic manager, Roberto Martinez, is confident that his team can avoid relegation in the 2010-11 Premier League season.
Wigan are currently placed 18th on the league table with 34 points from as many games so far. The Latics are equal on points with 17th placed Blackpool side, but the Tangerines have a better goal difference. With only four games left
to play, Roberto Martinez’ team have a golden chance of surviving the relegation, as they have comparatively easier fixtures than their other drop zone rivals.
The former Swansea City boss has praised his team for a consistent performance in the last two months. The Latics were lying bottom of the league table two months back, but a string of decent performances have seen them elevate the table. Martinez is confident
that his team is in good shape and will finish the season strongly.
Talking to the reporters http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Martinez-c24468 said, "I am very confident because I have seen the team perform at a very good level in the last two months. I see the competition and the work on a daily basis, I see the characters and we all want to win."
He also said, "We have been in this situation before and know exactly what we have got to do. It would be a fantastic achievement if we can carry on with the football dream that is Wigan Athletic being in the Premier League."
The 37-year-old added that most of his player’s have been in the same situation before too and they know what it takes to fight it out for survival. He added that his squad has enough quality to retain their Premier League status for the 2011-12 season.
The former Walsall's midfielder has thanked the fans for understanding their situation and has urged them to keep supporting them like this in the future too. Martinez believes that the players must maintain their focus and concentration on the performances
on the ground and do not depend on rivals to drop points.
Wigan will host Everton in their next league game on Saturday, April, 30, 2011.
