Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi confident of avoiding relegation in the 2010/11 season - EPL

On-loan Wigan Athletic goalkeeper, Ali Al-Habsi, is confident of his team’s chances of avoiding relegation in the ongoing 2010/2011 English Premier League season.
Wigan, currently placed 17th on the league table, has the same total points and game played as 16th placed Blackpool. Blackpool has a better goal difference than the Latics. Roberto Martinez’s team beat the Tangerines last week to jump
from the bottom spot. However, they lost to Sunderland on Saturday, 23rd April, 2011, but luckily for them, the other relegation threatened teams also lost their matches.
With only four matches left, Wigan is left with relatively easy fixtures than the other relegation battling teams. The Lancashire based club has to play against West Ham United and Everton at home while they will travel to Aston Villa and Stoke City for
their away games, in the coming weeks.
Al-Habsi has urged his teammates to put the Sunderland defeat behind them and look forward to ensure their Premier League status for the 2011/2012 campaign. The Omani international believes that there are experienced players in the team who need to stand
up and boost the team to avoid relegation.
While talking to reporters, Al-Habsi said, "We've been fantastic in the last four games, solid at the back and looking like a very good team, so we can't let the Sunderland result knock us. There are some big characters in the dressing room who'll pick the
team up; players who have been in this situation before and know what is needed to pull through”.
"The players were obviously down after the game, but we know there's no time to feel sorry for ourselves and we'll get that out of our system quickly”, added the shot-stopper.
The 29-year-old said that all the club’s stakeholders are up for the challenge and are ready to achieve their season end target. The former Lyn goalkeeper has urged Wigan fans to play a part in their team’s chances of avoiding relegation.
Al-Habsi joined Wigan on-loan from Bolton Wanderers before the start of the 2010/11 campaign and has been phenomenal between the poles since his arrival.
