Wigan Athletic’s Paul Scharner urges his team not to relax - English Premier League news
Wigan Athletic central defender and Austrian international http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-Scharner-c29393 has revealed that West Bromwich Albion are still not safe and more points are needed in order to ensure their survival in England’s top flight football.
He was talking after his team’s remarkable victory over Sunderland on Saturday, 9 April, as Albion defeated the Black Cats by a 3-2 margin after trailing 2-1 at half time.
The mid-fielder scored the match winning goal in the 72nd minute to earn Baggies an important win which has taken them to the 10th place in the table. The defender insisted that there is no point in relaxing, as it only takes a couple
of bad games to disrupt the consistency.
The 31-year-old further added that, "We are unbeaten now in six games. It's a tremendous run, and I think we all believe that we have the strength and the potential to survive. It's still my focus, to get the points and what we need over the next few games,
to have a good finish and a relaxed finish.”
Scharner commented that the Baggies need to register a couple of more wins in their upcoming matches to confirm their participation in the next 2011-12 Premier League season. The Austrian international believed that the upcoming ties against Chelsea and
Tottenham Hotspur could be very important and West Brom needs to maintain their consistency level.
He fancied Albion’s chances in the fixtures against Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers and ensured that West Brom would do anything to keep them alive in the Premier League. He further said, "We play http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 next week and Tottenham away, and I
think we have some very good games to get another few points. You can't be sure until the end, and that's why I think we need a few more points, and hopefully we can get them in the next few games."
West Brom are 10th in the League table with 39 points and level with ninth placed Newcastle. The Baggies have six games remaining in the season and are only seven points clear of the relegation places.
