Wigan Athletic’s Roberto Martinez foresees a busy summer transfer window – EPL news
Wigan Athletic manager, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Martinez, has admitted that he does not know how many members of the current squad will remain at the DW stadium for the 2011/12 Barclays Premier League season. However, he is confident that the team can produce a higher finish
in the table than they did in the recently concluded campaign.
The Latics were one of the five teams battling against relegation on the final day of the season, and they left it as late as possible before ensuring their continued presence in the English top flight. Wigan faced off against Stoke City on Sunday, needing
a result to avoid the drop. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hugo-Rodallega-c16414 stepped up to the occasion. The striker headed in the decisive goal in the second half to earn his team all three points, as well as another season in the Premier League. But whether the Columbian will be playing
for Wigan in the next campaign is another matter entirely.
Rodallega is one of a number of key players that are rumoured to heading out of the DW stadium in the summer months. Winger http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Charles-c8808 N'Zogbia and midfielder Mohamed Diame are also searching for greener pastures, and it is speculated that they too, could be
leaving the club.
Latics boss, Roberto http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Martinez-c24468, admitted that a few players may leave in the summer, but he insisted that the final decision on transfers rests with him.
Speaking on the matter, Martinez said, “Every individual is different, but we don't have to sell and that's very strong. You get certain players that feel they need a new challenge and other clubs can offer that at a specific moment of their career, offer
you something else in terms of a playing challenge. It's impossible to stop that.”
He added, "But the club will dictate. It would be foolish for me to say that we're going to keep all the players. But whatever happens, we need to finish with a stronger squad than we had this season."
Wigan Athletic finished the 2010/11 Barclays Premier League campaign in 16thplace, just three points clear of 18th placed Birmingham City who were relegated to npower Championship.
