Wigan Warriors’ Ben Cross will sit outside the Challenge Cup at Wembley
Ben Cross who joined in with the Wigan Warriors of Super League in July, will be sitting outside the final showdown of the Carnegie Challenge Cup 2011 at Wembley, on August 27, as he has broken his arm during 52-18 win over the Salford Reds.
Cross was marching towards the final of Challenge Cup when this unexpected turn of events took place, which will keep him ousted from the game for a long stint of time. This is his first season of Super Rugby after he had left his former club, Rhino Leeds.
Prior to that, Cross was playing for the Canberra Raiders, the Melbourne Storm and the Newcastle Knights. His professional career profile is impressive with championships won with the clubs. He also reached the National Rugby League (NRL) final showdown
with Storm against Brisbane in 2006.
While speaking about Cross’ injury, Michael Maguire, the head coach stated, “Ben was rushed straight to hospital and I'm told there's a big chance it'll need plating, so that's very unfortunate news for everyone. We're just looking for some decent news on
that one now - decent in terms of the severity of it and how they're going to have to operate. But with that kind of break they tend to plate them, which will mean a pretty long sit-out for Ben.”
Where the match unwound this unfortunate turn of events that led to the omission of Cross from the Challenge Cup, there was another deal disclosed. Sam Tomkins had outperformed in yesterday’s fixture.
He scored four tries with which has topped the Engage Super League try-scoring ladder and with this they sustained their position within the League Tables with the Warrington Wolves falling behind them by just a single point.
According to the Matt Parish, the Reds coach, this win of Wigan appeared to be an easy one for them, as Salfords’ resistance was not up to the mark to combat the table toppers.
Wolves’ coach, Tony Smith added about Roy Keane that he is a legend in the world of rugby, who had converted eleven tries in their clash of 66-12 against the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.
He further added about Roy that when Roy was called to visit their club, they were all taken back by his honesty.
Hull KR have successfully secured a spot within the top eight berth of the league tables after beating Bradford Bulls in a 34-8 win. With this match, Bradford is falling behind the Hulls with only five points short.
Bradford’s coach, Mick Potter was not pleased with his outfit. In the burst of anger, he also added that the game overall by his squad was not all that well-played, as during the first-half they played relatively well in comparison to the second half that
featured some loose rugby from their side.
