Wigan Warriors’ Harrison Hansen could miss Challenge Cup final at Wembley – Rugby League news
Harrison Hansen of Wigan Warriors might have to miss out on the Carnegie Challenge Cup’s final show down on Saturday, August 27, in Wembley after he was called before the Rugby Football League Disciplinary Committee, on August 22.
Hansen is charged with grade B offence for his dangerous tackle along with David Solomona of Warrington Wolves. There are two Grade A offenders which includes Blake Green of Hull KR and Jon Wilkin of St. Helen.
Hansen if proved guilty will be ousted from two games, which means that he will have to sit out of the final showdown of the Challenge Cup.
Hansen, who has missed only 1 out of 13 fixtures of the Challenge Cup, is charged with grade B offence which reads as, “using part of his body forcefully to bend or apply unnecessary pressure to the head and/or neck and/or spinal column of a tackled player
so as to keep him at a disadvantage in or after the tackle.” The tackle took place during Friday’s clash on Bradford forward Andy Lynch.
Michael Maguire, who coaches the Wigans stated, “I've got a pretty tough job in picking which squad I'm going to go with, with all the players I've got available. Telling someone they're not playing is probably the worst thing as a coach you have to do.
It's going to be back to what I'm seeing at training this week to determine which way I'm going to go.”
Maguire is to name his 19-man squad by Thursday, but the finalised version will not be released until the start of the final showdown in Wembley.
Maguire further stated that he wanted to pick more than 17 but unfortunately that is the limit which he had to abide by. The coach further acknowledged that to inform the players that they are no longer part of the playing palette is one of the most difficult
news to communicate. He takes it in an entirely different manner and makes his players hopeful for the next time. He makes sure that the players completely understand why they have not been picked.
This method invigorates new hope amongst the players who fail the selection criteria and pumps them to perform even better for the next time.
Wigan’s rivals on Wembley too are going through a rough patch especially as far as there injury-toll is concerned, which includes Kallum Watkins and Carl Ablett.
Maguire further added that Leeds is a set of able players who know how to deal with these kind of games. Along with that, he also acknowledged that he is aware of the true potential of their outfit, who had led the competition for a very long time.
He also added that he will make sure that his squad does everything to win at Wembley against Leeds.
