Wigan Warriors hit with injuries during Challenge Cup – Rugby League news
Josh Charnley and Lee Mossop of Wigan Warriors have their injury examinations lined-up during this week after the Challenge Cup. A negative medical assessment may put a stop to their journey with the Wigan Warriors.
Charnley went down with an injury during the initial minutes of Saturday, August 27, clash which led to Wigan’s celebration of a Challenge Cup win after sixteen years with a 28-18 victory over underdogs, Leeds Rhinos, at the Headingley Stadium in Wembley.
However, Charnley scored the inaugural try of the match for with a broken finger. Mossop who was filling in as a substitute for the Warriors, had a dislocated shoulder which ousted him from the clash, until the second-half of the game. His shoulder was pushed
back into its socket with the assistance of the on-field medical staff that brought him back to action later.
Both injuries were reported during the initial stint of the game but the injured players braved through the pain until they marched out of the field carrying the Challenge Cup title after waiting to bid farewell to their departing coach in the perfect manner.
Wigan’s coach, Michael Maguire, while paying tribute to the injured players, admitted that this special victory was all thanks to team-work.
While speaking about his injury-prone clash against the Rhinos, Charnley stated, "I snapped it at the joint in the first 30 seconds. It was sore but I toughed it out and it paid off. I'm going to see a specialist in the week."
Mossop was hopeful of his inclusion in Sunday night’s clash as his shoulder injury did not seem too bad and the player added, "I had only been on the pitch about five minutes. It was just a normal tackle and I felt it come straight out. It went back in easy
enough so hopefully, with a bit of rehab, I can get through to the end of the season. I'm hoping I can play on Sunday. If I can get a good week of rehab and the shoulder settles down, I can't see why not."
