http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Pardew’s Newcastle United were left shell-shocked, after suffering a humiliating defeat at the hands of Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium, in an important Premier League fixture for both the sides.

The defeat was a setback for the Magpies Champions League ambitions next season, as it allowed Tottenham Hotspur to leapfrog them into the fourth place, after the Spurs beat Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 2-0 at the White Hart Lane. Both the teams are now level on points,
with the London outfit ahead of the Toon in the league table, on the virtue of a better goal difference.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Franco-Di-Santo-c14060 then added a goal apiece, to consign the Magpies to their first defeat in seven league games.
The Magpies boss, Alan Pardew said after the game: “We didn’t match the intensity of Wigan. And in any Premier League game, that will make you look bad. We talked in the dressing room [before the game] about not being complacent and giving Wigan the respect
they deserved, but we didn’t get a grip of them in the first 30 minutes.”
The Latics started the game ominously and went ahead in the 13th minute through Moses. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Davide-Santon-c10658 on the left flank and his searching cross was headed home by the Nigerian footballer.
The celebrating home crowd was then left in euphoria only two minutes later, as Moses grabbed the second goal for Wigan. Fabricio Coloccini made a mess out of an innocuous cross from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jean-Beausejour-c18118, and the ball deflected of the Argentine defender into
the path of the Nigerian player, who slotted the ball past Tim Krul.
The jittery Magpies defence almost conceded the third goal in the 34th minute, after Santon and Simpson failed to deal with the cross from Moses, but Beausejour failing to hit the target from close range.
However, the relief was short lived for the visiting team as the Latics grabbed the third goal only two minutes later. Di Santo picked up Maloney at the left flank, who charged into Magpies box and calmly dispatched the ball into the bottom right corner
of the goal.
Di Santo then fired a spectacular shot from outside the box, just at the stroke of halftime, which was too hot to handle for the Newcastle shot stopper and resulted in the Latics fourth goal.
The Magpies enjoyed a short spell of attacking football in the second half, which saw their in-form striker Papiss Cisse’s shot saved by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ali-Al-Habsi-c5041, and his other attempt bounced back of the frame of the goal only minutes later.
However, a stout Wigan defence kept the Magpies from scoring a consolation goal, as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Martinez’s side grabbed three points from the game, to lift their chances of a Premier League stay next season.
