  1. Go into the woods and look for loose black topsoil, that's often a sign that worms have been crawling through it. You'll also find them under rocks, logs, and wet leaves, and they generally prefer moist dark areas. Stay away from soil with a lot of tiny roots densely compacted into it, as worms cannot crawl through them so you wont find them in there.

  2. what most are forgeting to tell you is that before you look for night crawlers look at the ground (lawn) look for hole in the ground about the size of a penci with a bit of dirt around them - if you find a park or a neighbors lawn that has lots of them - then that is where you should go night crawler "picking"  you wait until it rains out really good - that night you go out on your hands and knees with a flashlight - slowly look at the ground after dark - about an hour after dark. They will be coming out of their holes but you have to move slowly - they can feel the vibrations of you walking AND the heat of the flashlight (the light feels warm to them) it may take a while but keep trying you will get better at catching them - don't pull hard or you will break them in half..slowly work them out of their holes.

Best place to start is on the edge of the lawn where there may be some bare ground (dirt) then you can see them easier...sometimes if the ground has too much clay or sand you won't find them...so it depends where you line in FL.

If that is the case - Wal-Mart and about $3 will get you 2 dozen.

My parents live in St Augustine (moved there a few years back) we've never seen any worms on their lawn... farther inland maybe - but doubtful.

    Wal-mart is a sure thing...

  3. To catch more night crawlers you have to wait till a rainy day and then at night you get a flashlight and crawl on the ground and you have to be slow and steady then when you see one you then kinda pinch it because they are really fast and slippery.

  4. just go to wall mart and buy some night crawler there like 3 $ plus tax like 20 cents or go out side right after it rained a lot the worms will be out of the ground for a while

  5. Wet the ground a little while before you start looking.  I forget what but there's something you can mix with water that brings them up.
