Wii-U Madden to be inferior – Video Games Update
Electronic Arts has revealed that the Wii-U version of the popular American Football game, Madden 13 would be inferior to its Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 counterparts.
It seems that the Wii-U will also be plagued by poor quality ports as launch titles even though Nintendo’s system is reported to be technically more powerful than the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. This might have adverse effects on the Wii-U’s reputation
as being the most powerful console, that is until the PlayStation 4 and the next generation Xbox are released, as the multiplayer launch titles are likely to look better on the older machines.
This is exactly what happened with the PlayStation 3 when it came out two years after the Xbox 360. Even though the console was reportedly superior, it was hard to program for. This led to the PlayStation 3 versions of the multiplatform games to look significantly
inferior to the Xbox 360 versions.
It’s also a fact that new consoles always get inferior versions of game ports which are rushed to the market as the multiplatform developers don’t really put the extra effort in developing until the install base grows to a significant amount.
EA Sports has revealed that Madden Ultimate Team mode, which is a huge hit with the Madden fan-base, would not make it into the Wii-U version. The Wii-U version of the game will also be devoid of PhysX support which is another popular feature that adds to
the realism of the game.
“It’s not for a lack of want. We definitely wanted to get the physics into the game. The Infinity Engine is something that is a point of interest for ‘Madden’ fans; it’s just something we weren’t able to achieve for this first year on the new hardware. A
lot of times, new hardware comes with new challenges. But we were able to add things to ‘Madden’ on a lot of different levels, like being able to draw your own hot routes and being able to change your plays on the fly and create your own plays, giving you
the ability to do whatever you want to do pre-play,” stated EA’s Yuri Bialoskursky in an interview on ESPN.
At least Nintendo fans will have certain exclusive features in the game thanks to the innovative Wii-U tablet controller. Madden 13 comes out on August 28, 2012 for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. The Wii-U version will be a launch title for the console
when it comes out this fall.
