Wii U to do well on its launch during holiday season, says Nintendo
Nintendo’s next-generation console Wii U is not being rated highly by some industry analysts, but the company is not too bothered about the negative forecast and is confident that its latest offering will do quite well in the market during the holiday season.
Satoru Iwata, the president of the Japan-based company, concede during a financial presentation that he sees the console to be making a very solid impact upon its launch in North America, Europe and Australia during November.
He noted that the pre-order sales figures are extremely impressive, with majority of the retailers already running out of pre-order stock.
While the previous consoles of Nintendo had done extremely well in terms of sales figures, their sales were always seen to decline with the passage of time, possibly because of the experience on offer failing to remain fresh.
This time, however, the company is adopting a different approach to ensure that it’s console remains hot in the market for a long time by holding back some of its prolific titles such as Zelda, while releasing more third-party games with the launch of the
console.
"Nintendo tends to release too many titles at the launch of a hardware system and as a result suffers a drop in new games for quite some time after launch, and for the Wii U launch, we are being very careful not to let it happen," he said. "Fortunately,
third-party publishers overseas are launching many titles for us this time, and we were able to push back the release of some of the titles that we had originally intended to release as launch titles until next year."
The strategy had nearly back-fired for Nintendo when the fans showed a great deal of disappointment to find some of their favourite titles missing from the list of launch titles.
However, Nintendo did not wait too long to assure the disgruntled fans that their favourite franchises are in the pipeline and will be released during the course of 2013.
Nintendo Wii U is scheduled to come out on November 18 in the North American region, whereas the console will be hitting the European and Australian region on November 30. Japan will see the arrival of the console on December 8.
