Wii says unable to read disk?

It was fine and then one day it wasn't able to read any disk and the disk are new.Nintendo wants me to send it in and pay 85 for the service.Whats wrong and can I fix it my self

  2. I suspect scratched optical reader laser lens. I don't think you could manufacture one.
