Wil Besseling earns his best finish of the season at the Finnish Challenge
Wil Besseling secured the best finish of his 2012 European Challenge Tour campaign after recording a one-under par 70 in the final round of the Finnish Challenge to take the second spot on the leaderboard, on Sunday, August 5, 2012.
Besseling got off to a good start and birdied three of the first five holes that he played. However, a couple of bogeys on the sixth and seventh hole offset his birdies and he returned to one-under for the round.
On the back nine, he picked up some pace and managed to score another two birdies. Yet again, he failed to maintain consistency and suffered bogeys on the 16th and 17th hole and finished six strokes behind the winner Kristoffer Broberg.
Overall, he was happy with his finish. In the meantime, he was disappointed about not giving his rival a tough competition on top of the leaderboard.
According to him, Broberg maintained consistency in his game throughout the four rounds. His worst score of the competition, two-under par 69, came in the opening round, which was still a good score considering the tough course conditions.
Therefore, it was really difficult for his opponents to catch him on top of the leaderboard. He was the only player who managed to go in double figures.
“Kristoffer played very solidly today and I didn’t play well enough to win,” Besseling said. “It was always going to be tough being five shots behind at the start of the round, but I started off well and was three under after five holes. But Kristoffer was
also three under, so I hadn’t made up any ground on him”.
“I chipped in for birdie on the 16th to go three shots behind, but overall I wasn’t able to put enough pressure on Kristoffer and that’s a bit disappointing”.
Besseling also told that his driver broke after he played his seventh tee shot. Therefore, he borrowed it from someone else and used it throughout the round.
According to him, the new driver was a good one to play with. Yet, he could have done even better if he had his own driver with him.
