  1. Vermont is usually cold but I don't know all about your weather...........the ups and downs. I ice-fished in Michigan and I always waited until January after a long stretch of cold weather. It should be safe then. It depends on what type of body of water you are going to fish on. Always remember that the ice can shift and always be ready for danger. Check the fishing reports online in your area. This should help and good luck and stay safe. Happy fishing and good luck with those jumbo perch! I used to catch many of them in one outing.

P.S. I don't advise going out alone and bring something in case someone does fall through.....like a rope.

  2. Yes.

There have been guys out fishing this past weekend, although I did not hear of any great catches. On Saturday there were people on the Alburg side of the Isle La Motte bridge,  and also several off of Mud Point, (Alburg's West Shore Road), but the north wind that picked up in the afternoon broke up the ice. On Sunday morning, driving to work, I saw 18 guys off of the Alburg golf course. Unfortunately, all they were catching were dinks, so it thinned out pretty quick (my husband went there to give it a try for a few hours). They were fishing 3" of ice, I prefer to wait for at least 4". Today and tomorrow, with temps near 30 will not help the ice making, but by Wednesday it is supposed to get real cold and stay that way. I think you should take a trip across the border, and try some fishing this upcoming weekend. Make sure to be very careful, and only fish where there are others. Bobby's is open every day now, just so you know. We are going to be traveling out of state in a few days, so won't be around to let you know what is happening down here. Our neighbors will fill us in when we return early next week, so if there are any perch hot spots, I will let you know. Au revoir, have a wonderful evening. :-)
