Wilco Zeelenberg and Massimo Meregalli pleased with performances at Le Mans - MotoGP News
Lorenzo Team manager, Wilco Zeelenberg and Team Director for Yamaha Factory Racing, Massimo Meregalli are content with the performances of their factory riders, after Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies achieved fourth and sixth position, respectively, in the recently
held French Grand Prix.
Although Jorge Lorenzo finished at fourth place behind Casey Stoner (first), Andrea Dovizioso (second) and Valentino Rossi (third), it did not break his lead in the world championship points table. With 78 points, Lorenzo is 12 points clear from the second
placed rider, Casey Stoner who has 66 points.
Reigning world champion, Jorge Lorenzo was down in the morning’s warm-up session after experiencing a fall when he lost his front end to enter a corner. Though he was not hurt except a little injury on his finer, his M1 was totally burnt, leaving him to
continue on his spare bike.
Lorenzo sustained his grid position in the race and with 14 laps left, he passed Dovizioso to gain the fourth position in the race. He was able to shorten the gap from the front squad, consisting of Stoner, Pedrosa and Simoncelli, but due to some mistakes
he lost his spot and finally ended the race at fourth place.
Team Manager for Lorenzo, Wilco Zeelenberg said, “It’s been a very tough race here in France but the final result is not so bad. I’m not talking about the fourth position but the fact we are now leading the Championship by 12 points.”
Jorge explained that his effort is always to finish the race with his best effort and extract maximum out of his M1.
American rider, Ben Spies completed the French GP putting an end to his double ‘Did Not Finish’ status in previous events. He maintained his grid place from the start of the race but lost some time from the front squad after a couple of mistakes.
Team Director for Yamaha Factory Racing, Massimo Meregalli said, “For us it was a really important result, we got a lot of points and Jorge is still leading the Championship. Ben got a positive result and took some valuable points as well. Now we have to
work to be ready for the Catalunya Grand Prix in three weeks time." Meregalli also looks for the garage side of Ben Spies.”
The Texan was able to avoid an accident with his compatriot by running wide off the line, which gave benefit to Nicky Hayden (Ducati team) who closed up on Spies. After some laps, Spies was able to make way to pass over his compatriot, Hayden.
