Wilco Zeelenberg to test whether Jorge Lorenzo can race at Valencia – MotoGP news
Yamaha Factory Racing team boss, Wilco Zeelenberg is looking forward to test the physical conditions of Jorge Lorenzo for the upcoming race at Valencia.
Former MotoGP world champion also missed the dramatic Malaysian Grand Prix.
The Spaniard will run few laps on the start of the weekend at Valencia, as a test run to check whether his fingers are working properly or not. His hand was injured during a crash in qualifying round at Phillip Island.
Zeelenberg said, “The tendon on top of the finger is now connected to the bone again and that takes time before he can bend it and get movement back because if he starts immediately it will just come loose.”
The Spanish rider was taken for an immediate medical check up. The doctors diagnosed the injury and suggested a cosmetic surgery and reconstruction of his finger. The operation was held at a private hospital at Victoria.
Zeelenberg added, “It would be nice to have him in Valencia on the bike but the target is for him to get fit and come back competing and not just coming back for the sake of it. On Wednesday we will decide whether or not he will race in Valencia and also
for the test afterwards but I hope that he can ride at the test.”
The team boss also referred that he could have a short outing on the track which will help him to realise his situation. It is important to test if he can take the stress while riding because the wound is still fresh.
It is also considerable that if he laps in low times, still it will be good to race. It is important for him to get back fit for racing before the winter testing starts.
The idea is to test the 2012 1000cc prototypes, as this season has almost ended. If he feels better to race, then he might also take part in the post-race test session at Valencia.
The tough side of the situation is if Lorenzo misses the crucial post race test at Valencia, then he will be back on track by January 31, 2011. The first preseason test will take place at Sepang, Malaysia.
