Question:

Wild Baby Birds?

So this morning I went to the park and noticed two adult wild birds running around in the grass like freaking out. Then I looked in the playground area and there were 3 or 4 little chicks running around. The problem is that they can't get out of the playground area because it has high sides. I made a little ramp and tried to chase them onto it but they won't go on it. What should I do to get them out of the playground? I don't want them to die.

  1. The ramp sounded like a good idea.  There is no way to corral them to the ramp?  Sometimes with pet birds, but hopefully not often, we have to towel them.  Throwing a light weight cloth (pillowcase) over them them gently picking them up.  Not sure if this will work for you.

  2. ive seen this many times, the parents went in to the playground area looking to find food and the chicks probally followed, the adult birds wont leave without there chicks and there chicks are scared and probally arent strong enoufh to you the ramp. this hapend to me exept in a pond with no water, i know you mihgt be scared but you have to get the chicks out even if they bite and the adult birds will follow.

  3. Pick them up and place them in a safe area near the parents..in a tree or scrub.  Do not worry about your scent being on the babies..birds cannot smell well and will not reject or abandon babies due to this.
