Wild Oats XI takes line honours in 2012 Club Marine Brisbane to Keppel Tropical Yacht Race
With superb sailing skills, Wild Oats XI was able to claim the line honours lead as the team showed great performance on the course and reached Keppel Bay in first place.
The team took 33 hours, 18 minutes and 26 seconds to make it to Keppel Bay. Last year the same nautical distance was covered in 24 hours, 22 minutes and 20 seconds.
The Wild Oats XI team skippered by Mark Richards and owned by Robert Oatley was outstanding on the race course, despite the fact that they finished nine hours over than last year’s time.
However, their form in the Line Honours proves that the team is quite determined for the competition ahead and will give tough time to the rest of the fleet.
The weather conditions over the racing area were lighter than expected as the winds were not blowing strong enough so that the fleet could have saved more time sailing in the Line Honours. However, the forecast is hoped to get better in the upcoming races.
On second place finished Black Jack skippered by Mark Bradford and owned by Peter Harburg. They crossed the finish line in 42 hours, 13 minutes and 53 seconds.
