Caught a baby wild pig and have had it for about six months. Shes tame but we are moving and can't take her with us. What are the chances of her surviving if we release her back into the wild? We don't know anyone who would want a pet wild pig except for bacon. What should we do?

  1. Why would you catch and domesticate a wild pig.. especially one that you couldn't care for in the long-term?

She will not survive in the wild now, especially since she was a baby when you caught her. She is far too tame now, and doesn't have the skills to survive. You'll have to find someone to take her, or some sort of rescue organization. This is really your own mistake, so you need to do right by this animal.

  2. I'm sorry to say this, but it wouldn't be fine if you let it back into the wild, it won't know how to care for itself, and when winter comes it won't know what to do, and if there are any hunters near but it would probably walk towards them looking for food... and the end result wouldn't be good. Sorry to say this. What I would do, is call around and see if there are any sanctuaries or humane societies that would take it.

  3. you need to find someone to give her to. Try a farmer or a friend that may want her as a pet. She might be able to survive but she will probably be killed by a hunter or find her way to a road and get hit. If all else fails turn her over to the animal shelter. If you were in Louisiana I would take her. I have several pet pigs

  4. where do you live I would gladly take your pig.  lions have been cared for and released back into the wild maybe with your help the pig can learn to be in the wild again but you would need to do it slowly and introduce the pig back to his environment

  5. Unfortunately...

If you've domesticated a wild pig and are going to turn it out survival rate is slim.

You can help prepare the pig though.

It's basically defenseless and trusting of humans. A human could catch it for slaughter...or it could starve  because it doesn't not how to find it's own food.

You're going to have to get it used to foraging again.

It won't have a food/water bowl out there. Try to give the pig as much alone time as possible out there. If you could find wild pigs see if it interacts with them?

    Good luck..

  6. chances are she will not survive.  she has become dependent on humans for food, and will continue to do that in the wild.  find a sanctuary around you to see if you can give her to them, so they can re-introduce her to the wild, and if not, you know she will have a good home forever

  7. no,she would go up to people and they would kill her,you might try the humane society,or something like that, but if you release her you'll only cause her grief she will get into garbage and stuff...
