Wild rabbit's?!?!?!?!?

My dog was in the backyard and found 3 2 week old rabbit's.She killed one and injured another. The other she left alone. The one she left alone was released into the woods. The mother left them after the two weeks. But the one that was injured has a wound around its stomic. What should I do to nurse it back to health?

OK.I'm not gonna shoot it.And if i left it in the wild it would die.It made it through the night and stopped bleeding. When we asked animal control to come and take it they wouldn't instead they told us how to nurse it back to health. He is very scared though.I need to know if I need to give him milk since he may be to young for grass and what kind of milk. His mother left them alone so he is probably 2 weeks or older. He is not much bigger than a computer mouse but then again he was the runt.

  1. Get a doll baby bottle and some kitten milk replacer from the pet store. Feed it as often as it wants to nurse. My wife tried this and it worked very well.

  2. Contact the Department of Natural Resources in your area not animal control.  The DNR works with wild animals and may have a location you can take the bunny to.

For future reference, leave wild babies alone.  The mother was probably out getting lunch for herself, this is very common among mother bunnies.  Once you touch the bunnies some mothers won't accept the babies.

  3. feed him warm powdered milk not hot but barely warm. Don't handle him to often only when feeding. feed him every three hours and only a couple of droppers full at a time. keep him in a box with fresh grass and replace the grass everyday. He may make it but don't be sad if he doesn't it is hard to save a wild rabbit. I have tried many times. Let me know how he is doing and if you need more info. at; cherokee_mydog@yahoo.com

  4. You need KMR and MultiMilk

    The correct mixture is:

3 part Multi Milk, 1 part KMR, 5 parts (boiled) lukewarm water.

Mix the 2 powders first before adding the water. The mixture will stay ok for 24 hours in the fridge so don't make too much at a time.

    weight bunny  amount milk   frequency

    50 gram          2-3 cc           3 times daily

    60 gram          3.5cc           3 times daily

    70 gram          3-4 cc           3 times daily

    80 gram          4.5 cc           3 times daily

    90 gram          5.5 cc           3 times daily

    100 gram          7-8 cc          2 times daily

    150 gram          10 cc           2 times daily

    200 gram          12 cc           2 times daily

    300 gram          15 cc           2 times daily

350 gram          15-17 cc      1 time per day

    400 gram          no more milk

    First 24 hours:

DO NOT GIVE MILK but 1-2cc pedialite every 3 hours (not at night)

After the first 24 hours start the milk feeding according to the schedule above and weigh the bunny every day at the same time. If the bunny is a bad drinker, increase the feeding from 3 times daily to 4-5 times daily.

Use a 1cc syringe for the feedings and if possible a special nipple.

DO NOT HEAT THE MILK IN THE MICROWAVE but using a double boiler method and test that it's not too hot.

You need to help baby bunnies pee (they can p**p themselves) by rubbing their genitalia with a soft kleenex to start the urine flow. Keep rubbing gently until no more urine appears.

  5. Since you said that animal control gave you a way too nurse the animal back to health I would follow what they say

  6. Go to your local pet store. They'll have the milk you need. I found it at our Walmart but I'm not sure of all of the walmarts carry it. It's a protein milk specially formulated for babies. You'll just need to follow the instructions on the box.
