Question:

Wildfire smoke over Chicago??

I live in the midwest, and today, I heard a strange rumor: that someone found traces of wildfire smoke high in the atmosphere over Illinois. I know it is over Nevada and Colorado, but Illinois??? Well, if it is, then maybe that's why we're having these odd cold days mixed in with the hot ones. (I hope it rains out there real soon. Three weeks of wildfires is no fun at all.)

  1. What exactly is your question? Wildfire smoke could travel to Illinois if it was lifted to high levels in the atmosphere. Even if it did, it would reach Illinois in small quantities. The big changes in weather are all because of low pressure systems moving through the area. I live near Chicago, and I'm monitoring what's going on.
