  1. Wildlife conservation efforts in south asia are not up to the mark. Although we can say it is successful in some areas but overall it has not been very effective.

People of south asia especially India had a very positive attitude towards all living beings and they used to save them and even treat them as gods or gods vehicles but with change of attitude and more materialistic mind set all this is changing fast.

WWF, BNHS, Wildlife Asia, Sanctuary, Kids for Tigers, Bandhav Garh foundation, Ranthambhore foundation are some organisations working for wildlife conservation in India but till date they have tatally failed in creating awareness as was there in the past.

Poaching and fast depleting forest resources are a big problem and latest report of Tiger census conducted by WII in India has proved this.

  2. I'm from south-east Asia, so i'll tell you the conservation efforts there. There are wildlife conservation parks and national parks though some are not very well kept. And since most countries in South-east Asia are third world countries, there are many people who only care about profit they can make from logging, agriculture and illegal poaching. However, there are zoos and conservation parks here that breed animals and keep them in captivity of the park. The parks are quite nice, for they are all tropical rainforest. Zoos, however can be a little run down since they do not receive that much money to feed all the animals and maintain the place.

  3. TJS George's article in the New Indian Express (4th June2007) shows that tiger population in the so called reserves in India has dropped to half. Lions in the Gir forests (the only lion sanctuary in India) being decimated by professional poachers.

    Great efforts on paper.

  4. WWF International does work there.  Go to the website i listed below and select the country of your interest.

They're doing a lot of great work.  One of the best organizations I've encountered.
