Wilfredo Vázquez Junior in jeopardy for crossing the allowed weight limit – Boxing news
Wilfredo Vázquez Junior, the former WBO Super bantamweight world champion and the current world number 13, is facing severe difficulties regarding his weight just a few days before his high profiled bout with Nonito Donaire, the current world number one.
Vazquez and Nonito are scheduled to take on each other in one of the most anticipated bouts in a pay-per-view which is headlined by the bout between Julio Cesar Chavez Junior and Marco Rubio for the world middleweight championship. The bout between the duo
will decide as to who will wear the vacant WBO super bantamweight title.
The double header which is for the promotional purposes named as ‘Welcome to the Future’ will take place on Saturday February 4, 2012 and just a week before this brawl Vazquez is crossing the allowed weight limit for the current fight. According to the details,
the Papito underwent a weigh-in and posted a weight of 132.6 pound.
The one-week pre weigh-in which was organised by Puerto Rico Boxing Commission reported that the 27-year-old young Wilfredo over-weighed the maximum limit by a total 4.5 pounds.
According to the WBO rules in order to fight in the 122-pound category one can possess a weight of up to 5% over 122 pounds and not more than that. This is the reason why the scenario has become grave and a bit tense even for the organisers since now Papito
is bound to reduce his weight within one week by 4.5 pounds at least.
The weight deduction must not affect his capability, stamina and resilience otherwise he might destroy the main event of the double header. There had been several cases in the recent past where brawlers have deduced their weight substantially just to move
down in the division, a decision which severely affected them.
The squared stage will be set at Alamodome Arena situated in San Antonio, Texas. Vazquez and Nonito will go on to fight the 12-round bout unless and until Vazquez undergoes the weight reduction or is given a special allowance to fight. The duo is famous
for its bouts and the fights that they put forth in front of the crowd.
Donaire is nicknamed after his epic performances in several bouts as the Filipino Flash. Nonito has thrown himself in a total 28 fights and has lost just one. Similarly Wilfredo is also a quality pugilist and has entered a total 23 times in the ring.
He has also lost just one fight but lacks a bit of experience if compared to Nonito. The fight is still scheduled to take place at the same time, place, and pay-per-view without any changes, let’s hope it remains the same.
