Wilfrid Cote trounces Darryl Knott to surge into Men’s Singles semi-final of Canadian Masters
Canada’s in-form player Wilfrid Cote delivered superb performance when he reached into Men’s Singles semi-final after trouncing his compatriot Darryl Knott in quarter-final showdown at the Canadian Masters Badminton Championships in Canada, on Wednesday,
May 9.
The third seeded Wilfrid showed his impressive performance in the game when he played with confidence and toppled his lower ranked team-mate in straight games with an impressive margin on the board.
The higher ranked Canadian was one class above his compatriot as he did not drop any game in the quarter-final battle and won it in straight games in just 32 minutes.
On the other hand, Knott could not live up to expectations as he was no match to his higher ranked country-mate and lost the fight without winning any set.
In the opening game, both shuttlers put up good show while keeping the bird flat. They did not show any sign of fatigue in the opening set and kept the pace at the highest level.
In the opening half, no one could set up a comfortable gap as both shuttlers remained equal on the board.
After the break, Wilfrid changed his tactics and dominate the game at net which disturbed the flow of his rival.
The higher ranked Canadian was impressive in his fast movement in the court and he played aggressive badminton and eventually won the set with a 21-16 score on the board.
In the second game, Knott changed his strategy to cope up with the aggression of his rival but failed to dictate the pace and also made many mistakes.
In the meanwhile, Wilfrid did not drop his speed at any stage in opening half of second game and established a superb lead on the board.
After the one-minute break, Wilfrid remained positive as he did not play risky shots and maintained his upper hand over his lower ranked challenger.
The higher ranked Wilfrid won the second game rather easily with a remarkable margin of 21-13.
The in-form Wilfrid emerged as the winner in quarter-final contest in just 32 minutes with a 21-16 and 21-13 margin on the board.
