Question:

Will 1 more gig of RAM really help me?

I have a Toshiba laptop A205.

Windows vista.

256mb integrated video card (i know it sucks)

1 gig of 333MHz ram.

2 512 sticks. CAS 5

1.73GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.

I am ordering some ram from newegg. Coming in 2 days.

It is 800MHz, 2x1gig dual channel kit, CAS 5. PQI brand

I run Counter Strike source at an average of 12 FPS. But, my specs are WAY higher than the requirements. I was just wondering if it was because I had vista running on 1gig?

So with all that, do you think I will be able to run games with much higher FPS than i have been?

  1. Probably but only some the big letdown is your on board graphics which on most laptops is adequate at best But more ram will help as your graphics card also uses your M/board ram

  2. I would say, YES. I'm not that knowledgeable with Vista, but I'm guess it takes more RAM to run, so more RAM will only help.

  3. It's the integrated graphics that's dragging you. Upgrading the RAM amount would help a bit.

Laptops and gaming usually don't mix. If you do want to game on a laptop, you should use one that has dedicated video memory.

  4. With Windows Vista, 2GB of RAM is almost a standard.  It should make an improvement and it certainly won't hurt.

  5. Well i dont know anything about counterstrike, but ram only holds the processes for whatever you have going on..

For example, if you've ever played the game Warcraft, after having so much ram, it tops out, and it can't get faster. Your counterstrike may not be faster either. But a game like "the sims" can always use more ram and ever update and added ram will help by making it faster.

You may also see a difference in your normal routine as webpages may load faster, etc.
