Question:

Will 23" wheels work on my 53"?

I have a 53" road bike and the original wheels are 26".If I buy Wheels that are 23", will there be any problems??

  1. Presuming this is the width of the tyre, the 700 x 23 will fit as direct replacement, however comfort will not be as good.


  2. First off your bike is 53 cm [centimetres] not 53 inches unless you are about ten feet tall and even then it's probably too big.

    If you put a 700 wheel on it then your brake pads may not contact the rim properly.

    Never use a tape measure to find the size of the wheel as a 26 inch wheel is not the actual size of the rim.

    Take it to a bike shop as this advice is always free friend.

  3. Not sure what you mean. I've never heard of a 23" wheel. However, changing wheel size usually doesn't work. Asside from frme clearance issues the brakes won't be in the right place to hit the rim.
