Question:

Will .25 mg of xanax as needed help with anxiety? ?

I was prescribed this as needed. So far, it helps a little, but I am afraid to take them at work (when I have the most anxiety... during the daytime). So, I have only taken a half (of a .25) here and there... (I know a half is not very much at all). But, will taking it in this way help with anxiety?

Plus, I am not sure if he is going be prescribing this as an ongoing thing so I do not want to take them very much bc I don't want to become dependent on them.

Sorry if this doesn't make much sense this morning... still waking up.

  1. I have panic disorder and couldn't get through my days at work for the first few weeks. i was put on lexapro and .25 xanax as needed. if you take them as needed, .25 would make you drowsy, since your body isn't used to it. I eventually was put on .25 3 times a day and wasn't groggy while my anxiety disappeared. of course, my tolerance went up so i doubled the dosage (under dr.'s orders) and i was fine on that dose. i am now comfortable enough to start weening off, which I am doing and i'm fine. don't worry about getting addicted. i've been on it for 5 months now and it has been a lifesaver. sometimes you just have to take medicines when all else fails. maybe you need to be on an anti-depressant or something. talk to your dr. about that. also, is your job contributing to your stress? maybe find another job. i had to do so as well. i hope everything gets better. good luck!

  2. i took xanax before, but only when i needed it...... i started as like 5-6 days a week, down to a few, to none.... i didnt come dependent on it at all....  im not sure if i kind of grew out of the anxiety or if the xanax actually helped it go away, but either way, it went away and off the xanax i went... im sure its different for everyone, but your attitude towards it can help you not be dependent on it... like dont rely on the meds too much, think of it as like support... idk hard to explain.. good luck.

  3. That's a very low dose & if you are only taking half it probably won't help that much.  Try taking it when you don't have to do anything the next day. See if it sedates you. It is currently the leading drug given for anxiety. Don't be afraid of dependence on it at this early stage of your treatment. If it helps reduce your anxiety & improves your over all feeling in life, take the opportunity for some relief. The odds are that you won't need it for a long period of time. Talk about your concerns with your doctor.
