Sorry im sure everyones fed up with me asking. I have a BA in criminology and diploma in police foundations and i was wondering if 25000 is the norm salary for a new grad. Many are saying this isnt enough, but its seems as though most young professionals start on this salary. If i spend no more than 700 month rent, will this afford me a good lifestyle. Also can anyone who is in my position or knows about the job market give me a general idea of what i should expect to make, as many are telling me that this salary isnt enough. Lastly, i do not plan on police would what are jobs are there within the social justice area in london

  1. Consider renting/sharing a flat outside London, and commuting to the job.  There will be less strain on your budget, and easier to access good jobs.  Ask for an apprenticeship, at a law office, or an office which can use your skills.  Try to apprentice as a private investigator.

  2. I really doubt that you will find anywhere for £700 rent in London. I think with regard to your salary you need to weigh up the pros and cons - check out the offer - it might be quite a low STARTING SALARY with a view to moving up the scale dramatically once you have the exprience and work based training. I saw a job recently in a different industry that started off at £19k and then after one year it went up to £35k once you passed the initial training and probation. Quids in!

    Good luck with it though.

  3. Good luck trying to find somewhere in London to rent for less than £700 per month!

  4. Come to America!!!

    Much more money!

  5. Wow.  Do any of you people actually live in London?

I live in Kentish Town, just north of Camden (zone 2).  The flat is lovely, the area is definitely on the up, and I pay £560 a month.

I have friends who live in Stroud Green and parts of east London who pay less that £100 a week.

Don't listen to these fools, they don't know what they are on about.  There are also some simple things you can do to save money.  For example invest in a yearly travel card, better still cycle everywhere.

£25k is a fine salary to live on, and still a fair way above the norm, your going to have lots of fun.  Ignore the pessimists.
