  1. Your summer miles should not include any speed training really, start out with something like 30-35 miles a week, and work your way up to maybe 55-60, its what i plan to do...you can't go after a 14 mile run in the begining....you won't make it and it really won't help you...Summer miles are done for one purpose, endurance. If you incorporate speed training with it, you'll peak to early in the season...If you make varsity or not will depend on your 5k time compared to your teammates. For the average 5A school 17:20 will make varsity, 4A 17:50 3A 18:40 2A 19:40 1A 20:00 something like that is close to what the 5th runner will likely be running on a normal school thing, however those do change....Run hard yes, and run LONG! work your way up to 50 miles if thats your goal, but just remember just because you ran farther than the guy ahead of you, doesn't mean you're faster than him. GOOD LUCK!

  2. It also will depend on how fast you can run your 5k time.  Just because you can run that far does not mean it will be fast.  So if you do get up to 50 miles a week try to increase your speed weekly.

  3. Ok the main question is if you run, but just not varsity which is probably liekly if you want to run 50 a week. I just start doing 50-60 a week. Itll make you good when august comes, but good advice would be to run in the mronings and afternoons with at least one of the days speed work. My speed work day is thursday afternoons with 4-6 miles that morning. And then I have a long day on mondays with 10-12 miles in the morning and 4-6 in the afternoon. i hope this helps, but running 50 miles a week will definitly make you better.

  4. It depends if you are a girl or a guy. But 50 miles is good for either gender. If you can run a 5k fast enough, you're golden.

  5. That is plenty of miles, but you need to do stress work, along with the mileage.

You should be doing 1 or 2 days of tempo runs, plyometrics, and a road race every other week or so to stress yourself.

Just doing mileage does not make you a good racer.
