Will A SNES Start Up Without A Game?

i recently got a snes but i have no games for it, when i turn it on nothing happens, the power light doesnt come on, is this normal or does it need a game in it to boot up? thanks!

  1. If I remember correctly, the light should come on.  If the light doesn't come on, then it might be broken.

    To find out if your SNES is working, just push up and down on the metal thingy where the cartridge goes.  If the TV shows a flicker, then it's working. If you don't see a flicker, it could mean that you're not getting any electrical power.  

    You don't need a cartridge to get the power light to turn on.


  2. As with what everyone else said, in order to use the SNES at all, you most certainly need a game in it. The red light is a good thing meaning it is not broken. The "without games" menus did not appear until after later CDrom systems came out. Cartridge gaming systems are nothing without the cartridge.

  3. No it should come on when u push the button.

  4. Without a game, the power light should come on, and the screen should blink from black to red and back about every second.

  5. um, the power lite should turn on and you should see the screen flick.....and thats all it does..with no game

  6. Needs a game, sorry. But nothing to be worried about, atleast :)
