Will A decent golf club driver improve my game?

I use a donnay evolution driver at the moment, it cost £100 for 12 clubs so that works out at about £8. I prefer the donnay 3 wood as the 1 wood hits only about the same distance and normally with much more slice

I am now looking at getting a decent driver with a 460cc head, I have found the Ben Sayers Benny for £70. I don't really care what make I get I just want to make sure I am going to be able to hit it about 40 yards further and more accurately than my 8 quid donnay.

  1. to be honest when it comes to golf clubs you get what you pay for, i started out with a cheap second hand set and then when my game picked up i moved on to a better quality set.

Try searching ebay for golf equipment as you can pick up some top quality gear relatively cheap.

I have just bought a taylormade r7 quad driver from there brand new at £120 and it has a recommended retail price of £399

  2. The cure to your slice is the key to hitting a driver longer.  The only way to cure a slice is through lessons and practice... A new driver will not cure the slice.

  3. for sure help your game

  4. Hi. I am going to be perfectly honest with you re question.

I know what I am talking about as this is my job and it annoys me reading the c**p that is (sometimes) posted.

A 460cc driver is certainly the way to go as it is more forgiving on miss hit shots. Go try out a few drivers instead of jumping into anything. A second hand Callaway or Ping would be my personal choice but again it's all about choices.

With regards to your swing/slice I could be here all day explaining the do's and dont's and my advice would be get a 30 min lesson to sort you out.

Then go buy that driver. Not before as you probably wont go for that lesson.

    Keep it swinging

  5. Gotta help you more than the other one.

  6. I dont have long so got to be quick.

The donnay may be the best club for you.....also it could be the worst....

Each club is made differently (shaft, loft, kick points, grip etc)

Go to American Golf (we have one in the UK)

Tell them to same thing and you can try out different drivers on the machine they have. From this they will be able to tell you/ help you with what driver will suit you the best by narrowing down points. eg. swing speed to pick a shaft. Loft of hit for the loft of the club.

    etc etc etc

    good luck

ps I did this and I love the driver I have. I have only a cheapish Jack Nicklous driver and I was aiming for a top dog dollar expensive thing

  7. It's all skill.

  8. the degree of the driver is most important, im a scratch golfer... i use a hibore *11.5 degrees* my dad always told me as a joke "hit it harded!!" and he would also "the only thing seperating u from greatness is distance" i can hit it 280 *straigh as h**l* i could use a 8.5 and hit it 350 *out of bounds*

  9. The mechanic is the secret to good golf shots. Better weapons may help but if your swing is poor the best tool will not improve your game. If you feel a new driver will build your confidence and improve your game then you have done the proper thing. Only time will prove if you were right.

  10. I have a friend you can achieve huge distances with a  relatively inexpensive driver but he is fortunate to have an excellent swing. I would suggest you call to see your local golf pro.and obtain guidance. He may well have an excellent second hand driver that could serve your purpose and it might be useful to have a lesson with him.
