  1. In order for Alex Smith to emerge as a solid QB, these things must happen:

    1. He's got to get some help at WR. It doesn't matter what type of system he's in if he doesn't have anyone(besides a healthy Vernon Davis @ TE) to catch whatever he throws.

    2. He's got to stay healthy. He can't do anything to prove his naysayers wrong if he's on the injury report(especially with a serious injury).

    3. He's got to have an O-line to block for him. He's not going to complete passes if he's flat on his back.

  2. Great collage player who will never get over that hump!

  3.    Will SF ever get a good offensive line? Often times it's not the QB but the offensive line or other players that make a good QB look bad. Even the greatest QBs have trouble with poor offensive lines. Last year, the Browns finally built a solid offensive line and now they have an offense!

  4. yes and very soon...Martz is huge on throwing the ball

Smith is gonna get alot more reps every practice and game

look what he did for Bulger and Kitna...he has a way of getting his QB's to play above themselves.

if smith doesnt emerge as a solid QB this will be the year it shows...it's make or break this season for smith.

i have him as my backup QB in fantasy football because i think he should produce big numbers under Martz's system.

if he doesnt, look for the 49ers to draft Tebow, Stafford, or Painter in next years draft.

it'll prolly be Crabtree in the 1st and Painter in the 2nd

if smith has another dismal season and the 49ers finsh in the bottom 5 in the league.

  5. A solid backup in my opinion..... time will tell, not impressed so far

  6. Smith is backup material at best. The niners didn't do well by drafting him. As a franchise, they can't afford to wait around forever to see if this guy's going to finally ignite. So far, Smith has been singularly unimpressive.  There are better QB's to be had that would adapt to the west coast offense much better.

  7. Maybe. I saw this pig in a tree and he must have flown to get there, so maybe Alex Smith will emerge someday as a solid Quarterback. Right now he's still just a liquid Quarterback.

  8. No

  9. He has had a pretty run-heavy offensive coordinator for a while, and the skills of Frank Gore don't help the problem much. I think that Mike Martz coming in makes him a potential breakout player this year. He's going to pass far more as the Niners lean back to the West-Coast offense and the team will be better. He has a very accurate arm and I think that once he gets settled in the new offense, he'll do well.

You just watch, just look at what Martz did for Jon Kitna of the Lions.

  10. Well, if he does not produce this year, the odds go way down that he ever will emerge.

I would have to lean towards him not emerging.

His entire career rides on this season.  If Martz can't help him, there is no help to be had.
