Wimbledon 2010: Will Andy Murray beat Rafael Nadal to become the pride of Britian?

The excitement of Wimbledon 2010 has consumed millions of tennis players around the world. As the tournament is approaching the end, things have become even more thrilling. There have been brilliant performances throughout the challenge - but who is worthy to play in the final is still yet to be determined? The semi-finals being played today will decide who will be playing in the Wimbledon final 2010. The semi-final matches are between Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal, and Tomas Berdych and Novak Djokovic.

The match may be destined to make history, is that of Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal. If Murray manages to beat Nadal in this battle, he will be the first professional tennis player from Britain to have reached the Wimbledon final since 1938. This has indeed been an almost never-ending drought for Britain in this prestigious tournament and it is about time that someone from Britain came up to the final; especially when the tournament is being held in London, England which is in Britain itself. However, winning this match will be no walk in the park for Murray because Nadal has been the undefeated champion at Wimbledon for the past three years.

Andy Murray belongs to Scotland. He is currently ranked as the number one professional tennis player in Britain and number four in the world. He was also ranked number two in the world for two weeks, starting from 17th August 2009 to 31st August 2009. This made him the second tennis player from Britain to have ever achieved such a high ranking. His talent in the field of tennis is amazing and has enabled him to make a well-accomplished career out of the sport. Even though he has not won any Grand Slam titles as yet, he is still a competitive opponent against Rafael Nadal.

On the other hand there is Rafael Nadal. This brilliant young tennis player from Spain has had a remarkable tennis career; he has millions of fans from all over the world and is extremely popular in the world of tennis. He is currently ranked number one in the world and has won seven Grand Slam singles titles and an Olympic Gold medal so far. His marvellous performances on clay courts have prompted experts to declare him as the greatest clay court player of all time. He is indeed considered to be an incredibly difficult player to win against, but can Murray take down this Spanish bull in order to make his running towards becoming the Wimbledon 2010 Champion more probable?

Although Murray is lacking any Grand Slam title and Nadal has already bagged seven, Murray is still confident that if his game if up to mark he will be able to defeat the three time Wimbledon Champion, Nadal. In Grand Slam history, Murray and Nadal have played against each other four times, out of which each of the two players has had two wins. Murray lost to Nadal at the Australian Open 2007 and at Wimbledon 2008, and was victorious over Nadal at the 2008 US Open semi-finals. This has been his greatest victory to date. Murray’s second win against the great Spanish player was at the 2009 Australian Open, but in this match Nadal had to retire during the match, due to pain persisting  in his knee which was not allowing him to play properly.

The semi-final between Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal is indeed expected to be a raging battle between the two tennis superstars. Audiences are waiting impatiently to sit through this match and see who makes it to the finals. Will Andy play up to the expectations of fans and beat Rafael? Or will the Spanish world class tennis player, Nadal, triumph over Murray and qualify for the finals of yet another Grand Slam title? We just have to wait and see!
