Question:

Will Ben Holland benefit from his writ against Richmond?

He is suing Richmond & their former president Casey, in the Vic Supreme Court, for $530,000 for 'loss of business & investment opportunities'.

It was for an illegal over the top salary cap payment promised to him as a sweetener to sign with them & not Adelaide. He is also spilling the beans on the club for other similar instances.

Jeez, can you imagine what state Richmond would end up in if, as a result, they were penalized monetary & draft pick concessions. They could also lose premiership points - not that they ever accumulate many to lose!!

  1. he went to melbourne later, after adelaide came to their senses

but the overriding thing here is if you make a contract with someone you gotta stick to it

  2. Is it against Richmond or Clinton Casey, because Casey is the one who offered him the extra money, not the Richmond Football Club, although Casey is employed by them.

Also if Adelaide offered him $1.33 mil or something why'd he go to Demons

  3. yes

    .

  4. I don't see how Ben Holland can benefit from this episode.

Will a court make a decision & give subsequent orders on what, in all appearances, looks to have been an illegal agreement?

Ben Holland is to blame if he agreed to these arrangements - on a verbal basis - while knowing it was illegal. Everyone knows that in such incidents one first gets the cash in the hand - or at least a written agreement.

  5. Ben Holland definitely wont benefit out of this shermozzle in the long run.

He wasn't worth that money in the first place & that soon became obvious to the Tigers. We are only hearing his side of the story - it will be interesting when, & if, Richmond make their side of the saga public.

  6. could open a big can of worms this, from what i can tell and i don't want to come across as one eyed but Andy said Richmond told him all that, apparently if it is made known to the afl, it is not a breach, there is a long way to go with this, its not in the same boat as the Carlton stuff, but  if its against the rules we should be punished, but then so should every team in the AFL, they all do it.
