  1. IF you want the true answer to this question you have to take all the factors into account. Looking back on the history of the race it was actually shorter in the begining that standard of the mile and a half wasn't the official length of the race till 1926.  The only Triple Crwon winner to beat Secretariats record was in 1919 and that was Sir Barton and he did 1 3/8 mile in 2:17.40.  OF the 11 TC title holders 1943 Count Fleet and 1948 Citation were the closets with times 2:28.20.  They also didn't have the 31 lengths margin to thier second place challangers.  So to shave 30 seconds off of this time Big Brown would have to run the distance with no complications what so ever in under 2 min. and  I think that  is an impossibility.  I love Big Brown and think he is a great horse, I am hoping he will win the Crown and remain uninjured doing so.  But I wouldn't expect he will beat the record, or by the margin we saw in 1973.  if he managed to beat the record time there would have to be a major catastophy in the remain field of horses, like they all just stop at the gate for Big Brown to win by the same margin of 31 lengths.  I was 11 years old that day and it was an incredible thing to behold.  I bet Ron had one heck of a ride that day. And that big Red horse was just out for a run.  For him it is what he loved to do I'm sure.  You know he had to love to run.   Secretariat is the greatest Horse that ever lived to run.

  2. depends entirely on which motorcycle he rides.

  3. what the h**l is everyones talking about ??

I do not think you tube is the right place to get the facts The SEC ran with TWICE TH PRINCE

    3RD WAS MY GALLANT

    NOT SHAM

The race is for 1 1/2 mile and believe the stretch is the very long

the race was won in 2:24 in 11/2 mile

Allot of races before that where shorter

But No I dont think a world be be made by 30 seconds maybe close to the other but it have to be a very fast and tough race

but then you never know in horse racing

but not 30 seconds faster maybe 1-2 or 3seconds but not 30

    good luck big brown

  4. No, it's not possible for a horse to run that fast for that distance.  Secretariat ran the Belmont in 2 minutes and 24 seconds.  It's a 1-1/2 mile race.  Big Brown would have to run the Belmont in 1 minute and 54 seconds to beat Secretariat's record by 30 seconds.

Big Brown ran the Kentucky Derby in 2 minutes and 1.82 seconds.  It's 1-1/4 miles.  He'd have to run an extra quarter mile almost eight seconds faster than he ran the Kentucky Derby distance.

As a point of reference, Secretariat ran the Kentucky Derby 2 seconds faster than Big Brown.  He started in last place, picked off horses from the outside and ran wide around the final turn.  And unlike Big Brown, his rider didn't have to smack him to get him to run that fast.

  5. A horse runs a race only as fast as he needs to to win.  Big Brown has not been pushed in any of his previous races, whether Casino Drive will be the catalyst that proves Big Brown a champion and drives him to truly run remains to be seen, Casino Drive may look good on paper, but he has many questions to answer, just as Big Brown did before the Kentucky Derby.  Big Brown stepped up, but he hasn't yet been truly pushed by any horse in a race.  If Casino Drive steps up and pushes him, you might see magic, but if no one can catch the big bay colt, there is no reason for him to run a record setting time.  Big Brown is a champion without an adversary, and without that there can be no such thing as a champion.  If you win simply because you are better than anyone else are you a champion?  If you put an Olympic sprinter in a high school sprint, is the sprinter a champion for winning against those that are simply not as good?  You are a champion when you prove yourself against equal competition.  Beating Sectretariat's time?  Maybe if he were running against Secretariat, but lacking a horse than can run as fast as Big Red himself, no, I doubt Big Brown will better that epic race.

  6. With all due respect to Big Brown, as good as he is,  there's absolutely no way he's even going to get NEAR Secretariat's time!

Secretariat ran the first 1 1/4 miles of the Belmont faster than he ran the same distance in the Kentucky Derby!

It's hard to describe how agonizing it was to sit on the edge of my seat and watch with dread as each fraction sizzled by.  I distinctly remember yelling "No, Ron!!! Don't burn him out!  This it too fast!"  Surely Secretariat would flame out! No horse could stand up to those scorching fractions!  But he DID!

We'll never see it's equal in our lifetime!

  7. Not a chance. Big Brown will not need to run that fast to win. And since he wont need to. He wont.

  8. No,I don't think he will,but he is still a great horse.

  9. What you're asking is if BB can beat Secretariat by 3/8 of a mile?  Perhaps you need to research how many lengths 30 seconds would be and no horse alive will ever run 30 seconds  faster at the distance Secretariat currently holds the record at.  Physically impossible. It would be really awesome, just not ever going to happen.

Sorry if this isn't the kind of answer you were looking for.

  10. I dont think by 30 seconds but big brown will beat him by a whole heck of alot that horse can move i won 340 bucks off of him during the derby i love him and eight bells i cried when she had to get put down

  11. No way

  12. um... no.  Go watch the 1973 Belmont.  No one has even come close to Secretariat's time.  Big Brown is no Secretariat.

  13. Thanks for the laugh.  Have you watched Secretariat's Belmont on youtube?  It's amazing, I have a link to it below.

He did the first 3/4 of a mile in 109:4/5 and reached the 1 1/4 mile mark in 1:59 flat.

Sham is the only horse who went with him.  He lasted to just before the 3/4 mile mark, then faded to last.  After Sham faded, Secretariat was all alone, and entered the stretch by himself, still blazing.

I like Big Brown and think he's a good horse, but considering he hasn't even come close to Secretariat's Derby and Preakness times, I don't think he'll shave 30 seconds off of his most amazing record.

  14. Amanda G: If a horse runs only as fast as he needs to win, how would you account for Secretariat's stunning 30-some lengths lead in that 1973 Belmont race?  Perhaps it's also a matter of how the jockey rides the horse.
