I know very little about Blu Ray discs - will they replace current discs for music and movies ? Will we need to buy new DVD players ?

Trying to keep up with technology.

  1. yes you need to buy a new player.

  2. i think they will replace cd's and dvd's and then blue ray will be replaced, eventually!!

  3. yeh they were saying that in the news that it might replace the discs and music cds and dvd to blu ray and u will need to buy a blu ray player which is really expensive....buy a ps3 instead of the blu ray player...its cheap and worth the money

  4. They will eventually replace DVD's for movies.

You will need a new player as bluray is a seperate disc format.

If your thinking of buying one, dont bother unless you have a "HD- Ready" TV or you will not see any different.

The best value one is strangely a Sony PS3.

    Hope this helps

  5. Blu Ray will eventually be the format of choice for video media.  Audio media is already going to mp3.  You will need a player that plays Blu Ray, as current dvd players will NOT.  However, just as with other format changes, e.g. cassette to CD, 16mm film to VHS, etc.  it takes time for the consumer to buy into the change, regardless of how much better it is.  The frugal, and often smart decision is to wait until the format becomes the standard.  That is when costs drop dramatically.  Expect Blu Ray players to be around $100 - $150 in 2 - 3 years.

  6. Blu-Ray only killed off the HD-DVD, so far.

People don't want to be tied down to a certain technology or company, so something more competitive (cheaper) and flexible will come out.

  7. not soon.very few dvd players support blu ray and there are very few writers.ide stick with dvd till the end!

  8. no, you dont need special players for them. they are just like dvds only with extra features like accsesssing the main menu whil still watching the movie. and they resis scratching.plus it has better picture. its like digital tv but fior dvds. they alsoabout 10-5 dolars more. they are really just better quality and better features. but they play in your dvd player.
