Will Brandt Snedeker continue to impress in 2013?
It has been a phenomenal season for Brandt Snedeker. He has impressed and surprised many, this year, with his breath taking shots.
The 2007 Rookie of the Year had promised so much when he turned pro but success did not come suddenly. Instead, he had to earn it and now, Snedeker is a golfing sensation.
Snedeker turned pro in 2004 but he did not really explode on the PGA Tour. However, this year has been different.
The 31-year-old golfer from Nashville has now jumped up to his career high ranking of 9. This is all due to his consistent performance this year.
The Ryder Cup rookie could only manage two victories but his consistency proved to be a vital factor in 2012. He not only secured the FedEx Cup by winning the TOUR Championship but he also made it to the Ryder Cup team.
Many thought Snedeker would falter under immense pressure but he showed his true class. His putting skills have been magnificent this year. Snedeker has been putting so beautifully that even Davis Love III had to select him for the Ryder Cup team.
Snedeker had a wonderful year but a question arises, can he continue his good run of form and even win a major in 2013?
Well, Snedeker certainly has the skills for it. His performance at the 2012 Open Championship was mind blowing – a T3 finish was just magnificent. The way he controlled the ball and putted, was simply a treat to watch.
If Snedeker has to succeed in 2013, then he must remain consistent. This year, on the PGA Tour, he played 22 events and made the cut in 20 of them.
Now this is something to be really proud of. The two in which he missed the cut were the Players Championship and PGA Championship.
Snedeker won twice this year and managed a top-10 finish seven times, including a T3 finish at the Open. Brandt Snedeker really got fired up in the FedEx Cup Playoffs, where he completely outclassed everybody, even Rory McIlroy, when it mattered the most.
If Snedeker matches this sort of performance in 2013, it will not be considered as surprising as it is being considered now by the pundits.
He must go a step further to make his 2013 successful. A few more victories on the Tour, defending the FedEx Cup or winning a major will be something to be proud of for the world number nine.
Snedeker’s consistency has certainly improved since 2011. This year he has made more cuts than last year but what he really needs is a major to boost his career.
