Question:

Will Brett Favre sign a one day Packer contract when he retires?

Some athletes (Emmitt Smith comes to mind) sign a one day contract with the team they are famous for so they can OFFICIALLY retire on that team. (Emmitt played for the Cardinals, then signed with the Cowboys at the very end)

Will Favre do the same when he REALLY does retire?

And finally, what do you think of the symbolic practice of the "one day contract/retirement"?

  1. I highly doubt it. I don't see him ever stepping on the field as a GB Packer again as long as TT is GM. with the words they've exchanged over a course of a month,

  2. I have a very succinct response to this question: WHO CARES.

  3. h**l no! the packers burned their bridge and favre is too good for them anyway!

  4. No... I think he lost too much respect for the Packers organization and I'm sure that the Jets are giving him lots of love. On the other hand, considering the Packers are retiring his jersey and all.... could be a chance.

    Stupid.... make up your mind!

  5. I don't think so because the way the Packers and Farve parted was so obviously bitter. I see it going down the way it did with Joe Montana in San Francisco where he refused to go to Candlestick for the retirement of his number until George Seifert (the coach behind his trade to the Chiefs) was no longer with the 49ers.

I think Farve will wait until McCarthy and Thompson are no longer in Green Bay then make amends with the Packers but since those 2 just got 5 year extensions and Brett will likely play for only 1 or 2 years more, I don't think he'll be signing with the Pack again before he finally retires for good.

  6. 99% chance that he will. After he retires nobody will remember him as the great jets qb. There's an old saying "time heals all wounds" Bret would do it no matter who the gm and coach were.

  7. I dont think he will. He already retired once as a Packer and look what happened. Farve has spent most of his career as a Packer so everyone will always remember him as a Packer regardless of what organization he retires from. As for the second part I have no problem with the one day contract/ retirement. It shows how much a player feels connected to a organization. When Emmitt did his one day thing I was glad he did it. That way he would always be remembered as a " Cowboy for life "

  8. only time  will tell but if i was beating i would put my money on it that he does

  9. Probably.

Not a huge fan of one day contracts, but if they did, would it mean that the Packers would then retain his rights if he decided to un-retire again?

  10. After the way Favre treated his team, his coaches and the fans, I don't think that they'll be offering him a one day contract. He acted like a spoiled baby and blamed the organization for his problems instead of manning up and taking responsibility for his choices. I think he deserves to retire a Jet. A delusional old man on a laughingstock of a team.

  11. I don't see it happening.  The Cowboys treated Emmit Smith with a lot more respect than the Packers did.

If he does, it would be for the fans.  Even then, I wouldn't.  A lot of them have turned nasty towards him too.

And I don't see a problem with this practice.  Its happened a lot.  The NFL is a business and unfortunately it is treated exactly as such.  It would be great if a player would stay with one team forever, but it usually wont happen unless the player retires young.

  12. maybe, who knows......he did say he'll always be a Packer.
