Will Brock Lesnar stand or will Alistair Overeem take him apart? – UFC Special
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will feature UFC 141 on December 30, 2011. The event is a highly anticipated one, as Brock Lesnar will be fighting Alistair Overeem in the octagon. The moment reports for the match surfaced
weeks ago, the UFC circuit and fans have been buzzing with what will go down in the UFC ring when the two fighters would collide. Lesnar would bring his top game at UFC 141 but he should bit underestimate Overeem.
For Overeem, he has won thirty-five fights in his MMA career with eleven losses. On the other hand, Lesnar has won only five fights with two lose. If Overeem has a psychological advantage of winning more fights than Lesnar, then
Lesnar too will be in high spirits for he needs to make an impact against Overeem, so he could strengthen his chances for a possible UFC title match in the future.
Alistair Overeem, the British mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter, nicknamed The Reem and Demolition Man, moved to the heavy weight division at Pride 31 event in February 2006, when he won the bout against Sergei Kharitonov. He returned
to the light heavyweight division in July 2006 against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. Overeem lost the match to Nogueira through a technical knockout. He won the inaugural Strikeforce Heavyweight Championship in November 2007 at the Strikeforce main event. He defeated
Paul Buentello by the submission move, which were his repeated strikes to Buentello’s body.
His opponent at UFC 141, Brock Lesnar, made his anticipated debut in the UFC circuit at UFC 81 against Frank Mir. The match was held in February 2008, which Lesnar lost through Mir’s knee bar submission move. Lesnar has won four
consecutive fights since then where he defeated Heath Herring at UFC 87 in August 2008, Randy Couture for the UFC Heavyweight Championship at UFC 91 in November 2008, Frank Mir at UFC 100 in July 2009 and Shane Carwin at UFC 116 in July 2010. Lesnar was going
on an impressive run when he defended his UFC title twice. In October 2010, however, luck was not on Lesnar’s side as Cain Velasquez defeated him at UFC 121. Lesnar lost his UFC Heavyweight Championship in the first round after Velasquez won through a technical
knockout.
Lesnar would be looking to win the match against Overeem at UFC 141, which is thought to be a slugfest and a bloody encounter. Lesnar would try to throw out his aggression on Overeem. The former UFC champion would use Overeem as
a punch bag to reduce his frustration that he has been facing after losing to title to Velasquez. His opponent at UFC 141, Overeem has given an ultimatum that he would rip apart Lesnar in their bout.
Overeem said, "I don't underestimate this man. Winning the UFC belt from Randy Couture in his fourth pro MMA fight and defending it against Frank Mir and Shane Carwin was very impressive…I will knock this guy out. He is great at
takedowns and controlling people on the ground, but I can stop his takedowns and he is no match for me on the feet. I am going to rip Brock Lesnar apart, piece by piece."
