Question:

Will California eventually make its own island?

With all the earthquakes lately, I am starting to think that CA will just shake off the USA one day and become a island.

But is it possible?

  1. No.  It would take a cataclysmic event (major asteroid or bigger) to the planet Earth to actually alter the current terrain in such a way that California would cease to exist.  Even with supposed the Global Warming effect, the so-called extra water would not bury California either.  Ever see a glass full of water and ice and you set the glass outside in hot temperatures?  Does the water run over the edge of the glass while the ice is melting?  No.

  2. Haahaha. Yesterday during the Earthquake - I thought that California was REALLY disconnecting itself from the other states and becoming it's own island. Lol I was freaking out!

I've heard a lot about "California being it's own island"

But I am not entirely sure. But it's just a myth. We won't

know until a long time later. Then again, it would be kinda

cool to be our own island - however we might lose some

land - but then again, you never know. But I'm gonna say

No to this question. It just seems likely impossibly.

But this question will just lead us to another question, lol.

Edit - But if we DO become an island - like the guy above me said - we would move up near Alaska. (North) We couldn't be near Hawaii. (Darn) Because in between California and Hawaii there are Tiny islands (Catalina Island, etc) So if CA moves to Alaska, well - that would be one HUGE climate change!

  3. Very unlikely. That's an old wives tail.

  4. No. It's moving north towards Alaska, but it won't break off and move westward.

  5. Not really...the geology of the region isnt going to make it split from the country and go westward....try northward.  The San Andreas fault is north south running and so are the two plates.....sometimes plates will come into contact with one another perpindiculairly but other times like in this instance they will be slipping past one another.  California won't hit Hawaii but is instead headed to Alaska because it is moving northward.....
