Question:

Will Capital One give a letter of explanation if they are wrong?

I had an issue about a year ago with Capital One, I was paying on time and then BAM!! interest rates went way up on my card ( really do not know why.)

Then I received my statement and I was over and I had been charged 29 dollars over the limit fee.

I called and complained and the fee was waived only to be told not only pay the amount owed next month but 20 dollars more to pay for the interest.

what the h**l? Next month came and it happened again. Once again the fee was waived.

So now I am trying to buy a house and that came up with the underwriters. They want Capital one to give them a letter of explanation. I called and they said "they don't do that."

What in the h**l am I going to do? THis is the only issue, and I will be so upset if I lose the house over this.

  1. Call them back and ask for a supervisor.  Try to be as nice as you can and calmly explain what happened.  If the supervisor doesn't help, ask for that person's supervisor.  Try a few times - they must have something in place for a situation like this.

    Good luck.

By the way, did you ever get anything in writing from them saying they had waived the fee or anything like that?  Any sort of message on your statements when this happened?
